Day 1
- Every product goes through a design process. As you think back over the projects you've done at HTHI, you can probably recognize the ones that were designed mostly by your teachers and which included major input from you. But how many of your projects included input from a "client", the one who would eventually use the product you were creating? Today, you will participate in a mock design cycle to introduce an enlightened process called "design thinking". No matter what field or career you eventually pursue, you will see and likely use the design thinking paradigm many times. We will use it repeatedly this semester. So let's get started designing...
- If you missed school today:
- Download and print the design thinking worksheet.
- Go to the d.school website and watch the Virtual Crash Course video. It helps to have someone to partner with, at least for the first 15 minutes (you need to interview someone). It can be a sibling or a parent. As you proceed through the video, you will be instructed to fill in the worksheets you printed. You don't need to do the last part of building a prototype if you are doing this from home (unless you really want to!).
