Modern life is powered by electricity: televisions, computers, cell phones, lights, microwave ovens, and stereos to name a few. Many electric devices convert electrical energy into mechanical energy (motion) with motors. For example, washing machines, food processors, garage door openers, ceiling fans, and vacuum cleaners. How do these electric motors work? By the end of this week, you will have made your very own electric motor from just wire and magnets. How cool is that!
